Chronic diseases are in my family; I lost my father to heart disease. After loosing him at a young age, I want to prevent that from happening to me.

Some of the benefits with the KHC are the social, emotional and physical wellbeing. Being apart of it has improved my life dramatically, I now get out with my children and I’m much more active. It’s important to be involved with the challenge so that making healthy normal rubs off to the younger generations, we need to teach them the right way to improve health and prevent diseases.

I first started the 10-week challenge three years ago, so this is now my third time and its only just beginning to get easier. I find the coaches here great; they are very inspiring and motivating. Motivation is really important to me, If I don’t train with a partner or group then I’m not feeling motivated. The KHC is a good way of motivating one another as we’re a team of twenty girls, we get together, so some great exercising and we’re very supportive of one another.”

I was hoping to achieve weight loss as well as living a healthy lifestyle. I wanted to be more active for my kids and to show them that there is a more healthy form of life.

The things I enjoyed most about the challenge was everything associated with the challenge- the weigh-ins, eating healthy foods, the training, getting motivated and being more active for my kids.

Taking part in the challenge has changed my life; even though I have always loved training I never made any sacrifices. For the length of the challenge I sacrificed things such as alcohol and junk food. I knew that if I made these sacrifices I could train harder, eat healthier and hopefully get down to a normal weight.

The attitude that I’ve got now is that I just enjoy everything, from getting up in the morning to being able to tie my shoelaces without getting puffed. It’s being able to do the little things that most people take for granted. I’m now a lot fitter, healthier and making healthy living choices.”

Changes to the diet has been a pretty hard one, I’ve grown up and lived with not the best diet in the world but I’m making little changes one day at a time, I’ll get there I know I will.

As you get older you need to really think ahead for yourself. You have these kids and grandkids out there, you have to live longer and the only way you’re going to do that is by having a go, pushing yourself to the limits and being happy with what you’re doing.

Overall I’ve enjoyed this ride and if the opportunity comes back again I will definitely sign up.”

Dale Wright | Illawarra Titan-Ups https://www.nswknockouthealthchallenge.com.au/dale-wright/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=dale-wright Thu, 08 Nov 2018 03:20:26 +0000 https://www.nswknockouthealthchallenge.com.au/?p=601 “My team is the Illawarra Titan-ups and my role is to be a motivator. As a motivator I get out there amongst it with the local team and to motivate them in their training. The best thing about being involved is getting to know the mob on a personal level and seeing the hard times, the good times, the laughing and the companionships that develop along the way.

The biggest change is seeing the confidence in the Uncles who come along and join the program. Their build in confidence and the weight they have lost is massive- it’s awesome to see our mob fit and healthy again.
At the Illawarra Titan-Ups we have a walking program, a healthy cooking program and we also did a bit of boxing too. It was a mixture of a lot of different exercises but there were mob that did their own thing too- we’re a box of all sorts down here in the Illawarra.

People do the challenge to really challenge themselves, myself personally I do the challenge to challenge myself – it’s about having a go. My mob have that self doubt that kicks in and this knocks it for six, it’s a ten week program and a lot of the mob have stuck it out, this is why it’s so important for our people.”

I never thought at 24 years of age I would be on medication for diabetes, it was a huge wakeup call that I had to start making changes. Since starting the challenge I gave up everything- sugar, junk food and everything that wasn’t good for me. It has changed my life a lot already; my sugar level and my blood pressure have both dropped.

I would definitely recommend this challenge, as I don’t think people realise how important being healthy is until you get something like diabetes.

I dropped a lot of weight the moment I cut out bread and soft drink, I just drink water now- I’ve made water my drink. I will definitely do the challenge next year as it’s improved my overall fitness and I enjoy the socialising with the community. I feel a lot better mentally, I don’t feel so stressed after work, I go home feeling really good.”

For me, the Knockout Challenge is learning how to eat better, how to portion control and making life more active. It’s a health all-rounder and emotional health is important too. The best thing about the challenge is the emotional part of it, being with a group of people who are all striving for the same thing together, it makes me happy emotionally.

My participation in the Knockout has been life changing. Instead of sitting at home I get out and I’m active. I have a place to go and especially after having kids it’s like a second family. I want to be a healthy person and to set it in hard to my family that this is the way to be.

I really recommend getting involved in the Knockout Health Challenge, it’s made me happier and has given me something to aim for. I feel like I’ve got more control over my life. I left with my head higher and I’m more proud, Not only does it make you happier, it changes your family’s life too. I look forward to being involved next year.”
